" Hi! My name is Shawna on behalf of Expert Village. We’re going to talk about pinning your elastic to your band when you’re ready to do that. We have it pressed and ready to go. I’m going to take my elastic, and I need to be able to start it from one end and go to the other end. My elastic is not quite long enough, but what I do is I will pin it on the one edge. I’ll stretch it as much as I can because I want that elasticity. To my other edge I will also pin that down. Then I stretch it again, and I find my center. I can kind of eyeball it. I actually usually use my mouth, if I can find that particular point, and I set that in. Then I will do that to the next point in between there. You can also do this before you fold over the first part of the waistband casing if you wanted the elastic inside, but I’m going to do mine outside. So I just keep pinning, and if I pin it right then I won’t hit any of the elastic. If I get some of the elastic then it can break it, so I have to be careful with that. But I pinned that where I like that, and I can pin even more. I can pin in between each one of these. What that does is when I sit down and sew, I can pull from one pin to the other and not have to worry about pulling the whole waistband at once. So I just keeping pinning in between everything, and then I keep it tight as I sew. That creates a nice waistband plus it keeps it evenly spaced between the front and the back. Then I can sew down on top and on the bottom, or I can case that. So if I were to do this as a casing, and sewed this down by itself and I ran the elastic through it, I can do the same thing. I just pull it at each point and then I would stitch it down as I pull between each pin. "

on 8/2/2008 I'd love to see how you do it with the elastic inside. Also wonder how you sew it so that it still holds it's elasticity.
