Decorative Elastic Waistbands

" Hi! My name is Shawna on behalf of Expert Village. In this clip, I’m going to demonstrate how to do a decorative elastic waistband. I’ve taken my batiste fabric, folded it again and pressed it. This is an elastic that a lot of people will see on baby’s headbands or lingerie or underwear. It’s pretty versatile. You can use it as a waistband in the front; you can put it down on a tiered skirt, pulling it at different lengths to make a gather. I’m going to show you the waistband, and I’m going to put it inside of here; well I’ll do it on both sides. So If I were to put in my waistband, again you just start at…I’m leaving a little bit of the edge so you can see that decorative. It’s really nice on the skin, that’s why you can put it inside. It’s not scratchy of anything. Let’s start it off. I’m going to hang on to my threads and pull it for my elasticity. And sew that to my liking as far as the stretch I get, and then I would sew it down on the bottom also, so that it doesn’t curl like that. You can sew it wherever you want. You can do two; you can do three. It really depends on the product, if you’re doing something that’s heirloom, if you’re doing lingerie, just a skirt, anything like that. I would probably prefer that though on the outside for the decorative look of it. Again, you would set it on there, pull that. It really depends on how much elasticity you on want on there, but it’s an easy way to do a decorative edge. It’s just kind of a delicate kind of stretch. "
