    Series Summary

Tattooing takes place in almost every country in the world and has been around for centuries among indigenous cultures. Particularly popular among Polynesian and Pacific Islanders, tattoos were often given as part of rites of passage or for spiritual journeys. It was not until the 20th century that tattoos became popular among the people of North America, Japan and Europe. However, the evidence of tattoos in pop culture is quite evident now, and tattoo's do not carry the negative stigma that they once held in many Western countries.

In this free video series, our expert tattoo artist will demonstrate how to get a tattoo. You will not only learn the important questions to ask about your tattoo artist and shop, but you will also get a thorough history of tattooing. Our expert will then demonstrate each step of getting a tattoo, from sterilizing the area, to applying the outline and filling in the color. You will also get tips about how long tattoo's will take, and how painful a tattoo might be depending on the area of the skin. If you are interested in getting your first tattoo, or even interested in becoming a tattoo artist, let our expert show you each step in this very interesting process of body art.

I have followed you through from the 70's and have always appreciated your unique approach to the tattoo.I have a unique situation now .I have been tattooing older clients, some with diabetes.I follow strick sanitary guidelines and sterlization rules.I have found that if I back off my needle depth about 1/32 the skin doesn't seem to want to cut as bad, however there are still some problems.Any suggestions on these elderly Teens? Thanks in advance,Thin Skin Jim

"Hi! My name Shotsie Gorman. I am here as a professional Tattoo artist for Expert Village. Consumer issues in tattooing are actually quite important because most people that think about getting tattooed absolutely have no idea what to expect when they walk into a tattoo studio. They only see what is on TV or they see things in magazines. They don't know what their real options. I guess one of the real issues is they don't know what to expect in terms of how much a tattoo will cost, what the long term experiences or how to take care of it properly. There is very very little information out there and the information that is available is generally contradictory because there are many different opinions about how to take care of a tattoo. There are very many different opinions about what makes a good tattoo artist. I would say that collecting a tattoo if one decides that it is time, you've decided that it is time to have a tattoo, to think very very seriously about what the image is. This is of course becomes the butt of many jokes. You know people who decide to get who they think is going to be their life long partners name tattooed on them very often turns out that the tattoo outlasts the relationship. We live in a culture where 50 percent of marriages end in divorce so tattoos last forever. Think about it very carefully, try to find something that is unique to you. "
