Summary: Learn how to use an electric kiln in this free arts and crafts video series taught by a pottery expert.
"This is Mark Coy again and we are talking about ceramic equipment. What we have here is your basic cone 06 electrical kiln. It is made out of soft fire brick. The soft fire brick is what we like to line our with because it reflects heat It reflects it back into the ceramics inside the kiln and the ceramic itself is actually a harder material that absorbs heat. That makes it more efficient for bringing up our temperature and holding it at different rates and all those kind of things. We have vent holes down the front so that we can regulate where we have air coming in and going out. Of course, hot air rises so it is going to come out at different places. But if we pull a vent out at the bottom, we will have cold air coming in as we let hot air out. So we have to be careful how we travel the air through the kiln but it does allow for that."
