Shaping the Pot

"I'm Mark Coy and we've pulled up our nice straight cylinder and our process of throwing this pot and now we are ready to shape it. We are going to make a nice little vase. We are going to kind of bellow it out here and then give it a little bit of a waist and then we will flair it and give it a bit of a trumpet bell at the top. So here we go. We don't need to go real fast at this point. Now with my left hand in order to get that belly, I'm just going to pull, push it out. You can see it starting to flair out at the bottom and then I am just going to start coming up and then with my right hand now, I am going to pull that waist in and then come right up to the rim and then stop with my right hand. You see that right hand and then just take my left hand and pull that lip right over top of my fingers. Then I am just going to check my wall thickness and get it nice and smooth and see how things look. It looks pretty good. So I then will do a little trimming."
