"Hi, I'm Michelle and I'm here today on behalf of Expert Village. We're going to learn today how to knit a scarf for beginners and while we are doing that we will go over some basic tips that you need to get started for beginners. There are specific tools you will need for different and specific tasks but I like to keep a knitting bag with me that has tools that I use on just about anything. So let me show you what you might want in your knitting bag. I always keep 3x5 cards with me. You can see that as I am working on a project I like to remind myself what I have done and what I need to do. Stitch holder can be invaluable if you need to use your needle for something else or if you need to slide parts of your project off of your needle then this is what you're going to need to use. I also have tapestry needles, these are good for fixing small mistakes or for using them to weave the ends of your project when you have completed it. Scissors, a must. This little guy here is great for keeping track of rows or stitches that you have completed. You just slide it on to the end of your knitting needle and by turning it, you can see you have counted one stitch or row depending on what you need to count. I also always keep a crochet hook with me even though I'm not crocheting right now, that's because these can also be used to weave in loose ends or to fix little mistakes that may occur in your work. A pen mostly to just go with the 3x5 cards to keep me on track because sometimes I can be a little bit scatterbrained. This here will allow, if you have a knitting needle that you're not sure what the size is, by sliding it into these holes till you find the one that fits, then you'll know what size needle you're working with. This can be immensely helpful in finding the right gauge. I also have a ruler here at the end so I can see how I am progressing on my work. Safety pens I use as stitch markers by sliding them onto the needle that way I remind myself if I need to start a new stitch or start something new in my project, then that is where I do it. And then the thing I probably use the most is the lotion. Working with fiber can really dry your skin out so it will make your hands feel a lot better and your project go a lot smoother if you can moisturize whenever you need to. "
