"This goes for saying with any part of a bike, but it's incredibly important with your bottom bracket area that you regularly check the tightness and torque settings that you have bolts at. Cause I mean, this area around here sees a heck of a lot of stress on a bike, even a road bike. It sees a lot of stress. But you know, one of the things you should add to your pre-ride checklist is always just a simple check to make sure that your crank arms are tight. See, I left this one deliberately loose a little bit. But it should be nice and snug and that just insures that everything is pulled all the way onto the tapers. Or if it's a two piece crank set that things are fully seated. And you'll get the best performance, the best wear and the best ride out of the parts. So check your torque. Check your tightness and you know, go buy a torque wrench and torque specifications are printed in every manual for every part you'll ever get. It could save you not just thousands of dollars in broken parts, it could save you from getting injured. So it's a pretty invaluable tool."
