"So now we thread the crank puller in - so it's a right hand thread - until it bottoms out. And now just simply spin around the puller until we get to the meatier part of the taper. And now it's a little bit stiff, a little bit of resistance, and you should be able to just pull it off the rest of the way. So you can see it's a pretty hefty little interface. I'm going to pull the crank puller out and get that little button out. Sometimes it likes to get stuck in there. I can use my Allen wrench to push it out, so we got that out. And as you can see, this is an application where you've used grease. I've got grease on the spindle, I've got grease on my bolt, I've got grease on my crank arms. With an interface like this, the grease helps to keep things tight, helps to reduce creaking, helps to make things sort of generally better. So I'm going to pretend that I have some solvent, like acetone or rubbing alcohol on this rag, and I am just cleaning everything off on this interface, getting it free of grease so that I can put some nice, clean fresh grease on there, and also examine it for cracks and wear marks. This is anodized gold, so if I see silver, that means it's pretty worn."
