Series Summary

Throughout all of history there have been people who like to dominate other people and force them to do things they don't want to do. These bullies come in many sizes and power levels but one thing is always the same about them. They have some sort of insecurity inside that causes they to want to control others forcefully. They enjoy taking all their frustrations out on others and to be controlling. Whatever the reason is it takes a special type of person to correctly handle a bully in a confrontational situation. This is where we at Expert Village come in.

We have brought a great expert in to discuss what exactly a bully is and how to identify one because it isn't always the easiest thing to do and also how to correctly respond to one to make them leave you alone. Bullies aren't just confined to school yards and playgrounds. They can just as easily be found in the work place or right next door. It isn't the easiest thing in the world to stand up to a bully but take these tips to heart and have faith that you can and will get through it because if you let a bully control you you're never free.

Video Transcript

"Hello, my name is Melisa Schenk and on behalf of Expert Village. Today we're going to talk about how to deal with a bully. In this first clip let's talk about bully basics. Of course you have the bully themselves, the person being bullied, but what about the bystander? Many people forget about bystanders and honestly the bystanders are just as guilty themselves as the person being bullied. If they aren't doing anything, you have to think about the motivation of a bully. Why are they bullying? Well, if it's one on one, it's probably a power struggle or to intimidate that person, but if there are bystanders all around, of course they're trying to maybe impress their friends or make themselves look really good in public. They're not looking good of course but they're trying to impress their friends and look good to their peers perhaps at school. So it's interesting and it's very important to discuss with your children, the bully, the person being bullied but also the bystander. Very, very important. When thinking about the bystander, we have to think also what is the bully's motivation? To impress the bystanders. So, if people around, the bully don't do anything, what is that bully going to continue doing? Picking on the person that he is bullying. So, if you're discussing with your children, very important about being a bystander, what are you going to do? Are you going to do something to help that person being bullied?"
