"Hello! My name is Melissa Schenk and on behalf of Expert Village, today we're going to learn how to make paper snowflakes. In this clip, I'm going to teach you how to cut your snowflakes. More importantly, the 2 major points to make this all work. It seems almost like origami for now because we've been doing a lot of folding. Now, we're going to do our cutting. There are 2 major points. Well, there are 3 points because we have a triangle, but there are 2 major points to keep in mind to remember here. It's E and D. If you go back to the other clips, you would have seen with our folds, we ended with E here and D here after we made our cut right here. What you have to keep in mind is E in the lower left hand corner. E forms the points of the snowflake, so the outer edges of your snowflake. If you cut them off or you trim them, then they're going to be rounded. They're going to have a certain shape to them. E forms the outer point of the snowflake. D is the center part of the snowflake. If you for instance, cut D off. You cut it right across, then you're going to be left with a hole in the center of your snowflake. We'll see some examples in later clips. You have to keep in mind. D and E, the most important part. E, once again, forms the point of the snowflake on the outer edges and D is the center. If you cut that off or you make a little incision in there, you may have a star in the center, but you'll be left with something in the center. In later clips, I'll show you examples of points that have been cut off in the center and other times where it hasn't been cut off in the center."
