"Hi, I'm Katie Roney with Expert Village. We're going to discuss how to conduct an interview. One of the issues that you're going to want to address is the candidate's current situation. Obviously they're here, they're interviewing with you, there is something maybe not exactly right with their current situation. Whether they're at a job they don't like, a company that doesn't appreciate them, whether they were laid off last time, you want to go over all that with them. You also want to gauge the candidate's interest at this point and pretty poignantly ask them what's your interest level in this position now that we've discussed the company, now that we've discussed the salary are you still interested in pursuing it? Would you like to go to the next level of discussion or perhaps the second or third round of interviews? It's okay to ask them that. More than likely they're going to want the chance to tell you yes. Yes, I'm very interested I would love to move to the second round. So give them that opportunity. Now of course there's always the option that they could say well I really need to discuss this with my spouse, there's a lot of travel time. So talk about the interest. It is the pink elephant in the room whether or not they're interested. Just ask and that way you will know yourself. Also, it's going to be important to know whether or not they're interviewing with other companies. As recruiters or H.R. personnel are interviewing people, they know that there is competition out there. Just ask them, are you interviewing anywhere else? Are you interested in any other industry or company? That way you can, they'll know that you're very serious, and it also gives them a chance to say yes, I'm interviewing here and here and you'll kind of know their timeline on when they would need to know an answer."
