"Hi, my name is Ken D. Orlich, on behalf of Expert Village. Okay, now we're going to tin a solder iron. Basically what that means is, heat it up, and touch solder to the tip, and coat it with solder, that basically kind of concentrates the heat at the tip, and just works better for proper soldering. So, here we go. Once again, safety glasses, or high strength prescription in my case. Turn it up ... okay, almost. Here we go. And the solder will just melt and kind of liquefy on there. Going to get both sides -- kind of hang onto there for awhile. There you go. And, like I said before, you don't want to dig it into the sponge too long because then you're just going to cool the tip back down. And, there you go. Now you have a nice, shiny, clean tip. And that's what you want when you're soldering."
