"When you're picking out a leather belt, you have a lot of different choices, but basically you want to first of all, make sure that it's real leather. You don't want to get pleather or any kind of fake leather because the paint is not going to stick to it. Once you find a leather belt, you can either get a newer one that has a smooth surface and you can find a design that you're going to paint on there, or you can get a belt that has an embossed design on it already. You can just sort of do the coloring on it, which is easier and sort of guarantees that the design is going to be nice. I made this buckle. I just sort of used the colors in the main piece and just sort of highlighted those colors in the design. That's a really nice and sort of easy way to do it. Also, what your buckle looks like. If it's a newer kind of design, then you probably want to go with a newer belt. If you have a sort of antique looking buckle, then you probably want to get like a vintage belt or something that's going to match your buckle basically. You want the 2 to match. Other than that, it's pretty much up to you, so find something you like."
