Creating a Lidded Pottery Container

"I'm ready now to open the lump of clay which has been centered so gently I'm putting my hands around it. Putting my thumbs down into the center and leaving some space down there for the bottom. I'm not going all the way down to the bat and I can measure that by putting my finger inside the pot and putting my other finger outside. You can pretty much tell that I have about a good half an inch there. I want to open it up this part is called establishing the bottom. I'm going to compress this clay so it doesn't crack and then start pulling the wall up. I'm going to leave this rim thick because I want to be able to put a flange in there for the lid to sit into. I'll shape this a little bit more, now we are all set for the next step."
