"So now we're ready to serge the sides of our fabric. And this one actually is the selvage seam and so you wouldn't have to, but I like for my bag to be uniform and for everything to look nice inside. And the reason we're serging this is because we're not going to put lining in it and we don't want the bag fraying. As you can tell, this hemp fabric frays, and we don't want that, so we're just going to cut this all off. So I'm just going to run two serge seams right along the side of the seam that we made initially. And it will cut off this extra fabric on here. I like to go a little bit extra and leave a little bit hanging off the end. I'm going to go ahead and cut off this excess up here because we wont' need that. So I'm going to go do the other side... the same thing. Here we go. And I try to make the seams the same size on both sides. All the way right up to the top. And you can just snip it close at the top and leave a little tail hanging on the other side. And you don't have to really worry about that too much, it just locks the stitch in so it doesn't come frayed right here at the bottom either. So since we have both sides serged, sewn.... this is seventeen inches across here, now we need to start thinking about cutting the top lip off. Before we do that though, I'm going to show you something that we need to do right up here along the top seams. And I'll show you that in the next clip."
