"On behalf of Expert Village my name is Karen LoCasale and I'm here to tell you about gourd art. Making a gourd mask. What you want to do when you are going to the gourd farm is, instead of looking for something that's gonna be flat, you want to look for your shape. So, you're gonna take a gourd that looks like that and you're gonna want to turn it over and say "Hum, would that make me a good mask". And what you're going to do with these is if we do it quickly, you can make your cut on the center of this gourd. It will split and you'll actually end up with two masks for the price of one. Sometimes it doesn't work for you, sometimes when you cut it it just doesn't want to cooperate and one half will break but if we get lucky, we'll get two. So, when you're looking for your gourd for a mask be thinking of your shape of the mask and try and stay away from a really, really thin end here because keep in mind you are going to be cutting this in half. So, if this is really, really tiny it's gonna be hard to get that cut, so just kinda keep that in mind. But, round gourds will work as well if you want your gourd face to be completely round that's fine. This just happens to have that little curve in there which kind of adds a nice little touch so whatever shape you like, that's fine."
