"On behalf of Expert Village my name is Karen LoCasale and I'm here to tell you about crafting with gourds. Finishing the inside of your gourd the big question for finishing the inside of a gourd is whether you are going to use it for a food product and by that I don't mean putting hot soup or something liquid inside of it. But if you are going to have candies or something like that in there or whether it is just going to be strictly a decorative type thing. If you are going to have it to where there is candies or something like that where food is going to be in contact with it gourds do have a bitter taste to them. So you do want to seal it and not only for the bitter taste but also it continuously gives off the dust so no matter how well you clean there is always going to be some dust residue there. So you definitely want to have it seal if you are going to use it in a bowl type situation. The best thing that you can use to do that would be any kind of a water base acrylic sealant. You don't want to use any kind of a oil base so keep that in mind to keep with a water based acrylic finish to do your inside. If you would like the natural gourd to show through that is all you have to do so you won't have that dust and you will get to see all of your different coloration inside your gourd and for a lot of people they like to see that. I like to leave a lot of the natural look to the actual gourd and some of the blemishes. "
