"On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Karen LoCasale and I am here to tell you about crafting with gourds; how to cut a gourd. First thing you need to do is have some safety products. Real important, gourds do have a very fine dust and people are almost always allergic to it. We get what we call in the gourding world, gourd flu, where it will actually, your nose will plug up and you kind of feel like you have the flu. It does get into your lungs and over time it can be accumulative and be a problem. You need to wear a good dust mask for respiratory protection and also some safety glasses just in case some little pieces fly out or you have a problem with your drill. So, good things to remember. Okay so first what we are going to do is drill a pilot hole in with my drill and you don't have to do it this way, you can use craft knifes or always you can use hand tools to do this. The thicker gourds, it's going to be harder to do. I like working with the power tools it works for me, but what ever works for you. Alright, so we are going with the mask. "
