"Before you shop for your beads, you want to design your window valance. There are a lot of things that will affect how many beads you buy and the types of beads that you buy. So the first thing you want to do is measure out your window and maybe sketch it like this. You want to decide whether the board that you're mounting the beads on will be placed above the window frame, or if you want to place it over the window frame. You want to decide whether the beads are going to come out to cover the window frame or like this one, stay only where the glass is, inside the window frame. You also want to consider the length of your beaded strings, whether you want them to come all the way down to the bottom of the window, or if we'll stop halfway between or even a shorter valance. You'll also decide on the grade of your beaded lines, and you can do all sorts of different design lines with the strings of beads depending on how long you make the strands and vary them. Some other decisions you'll want to make while designing your beaded valance is how far apart to make the strands. Usually one inch to three inches apart is a good thing and you can hang up some strands in the window and just see how it covers and how you like the look to decide how far apart the strands should be. You want to decide whether you want to bead the whole strand like this or if you want to bead it with small clusters and leaving empty space. They both give a little different look and it will have a large affect on how many beads you'll need to buy. You also want to think about if you want to buy larger focal beads that you see, we have the hearts and the diamonds and it changes the look of the beaded valance. So all of these things are very important. You also want to decide if you want to put something on the bottom, pennant beads or drop beads. And there are also large focal beads like this that you can use. All of these decisions you'll make and then you'll sit down and sketch out your window valance."
