How to Sew Baby Blankets

"Hi I am Karina Fraley for Expert Village and I am showing you how to make a baby blanket. As I said earlier we are going to be using just a regular sewing machine and this only requires two stitches. A zig-zag stitch which is going to keep the fabric from raveling on you in the washer machine which it will do if you don't finish the edges with a zig-zag stitch and then just a straight stitch to finish it when we fold over our trim. Very, very simple and this is a very quick project. So we have cut out our fabric, we have put the two faces together and now we are just going to go around the entire perimeter of the blanket with a zig-zag stitch. And I like to keep my zig-zag stitch pretty small because I like to do my edging, my trim with blanket very thin. So, you just set your machine to the setting which I have already done and just start sewing. I am going to put mine on rapid speed. (sewing) And you just, basically you just keep your hands on the fabric to guide it through. And you are just going to want to stay right along the edge with your zig-zag stitch and again this is going to prevent your fabric from unraveling when you wash it. And you just help guide your fabric through, you don't force it along, you just guide it lightly through keeping it straight so that you have a nice straight edge."
