How to Dress for a Job Interview

"Hi, this is Katie Roney with Expert Village, and we are discussing how to have a successful interview. The way a candidate looks is extremely important. This is going to relay to the interviewee and other individuals that you meet at the company, what you look like on a day to day basis. What that's going to tell them is what you're going to look like when you're sitting at the desk next to them. First of all, dress must be professional. Even if the environment is business casual, or even non-professional dress, you want to try to wear a suit, if at all possible. Even ladies, try to wear a suit. Men, please wear ties, and please wear ties that fit. Make yourself look tailored, make yourself look manicured, have your nicest outfit on. Women, you don't ever really want to show any skin, even on your feet if at all possible, so it's always best to wear pants. In the summer time, opened toed shoes, things like that are okay. But in the winter, hose are always the professional dress attire. And haircuts, earrings, fingernails, bags, portfolios, everything, have it together, have it manicured. Don't look like you just woke up that morning and threw something on. Look like you put effort into it. They're going to want to know that you put effort into looking good for their company. They may say to you, this place requires a tie, are you okay wearing a tie? Absolutely, they're going to know that you are. You're wearing one right then. You're just going to be more yourself, you're going to feel better, even if you're more dressed than the person interviewing you. You're just going to walk in with a feeling of confidence. "
