Adding a Butterfly to Two Toned Ponchos

"Now I'll show you how to add a butterfly decoration to our fleece poncho. You'll need a remnant piece of coordinating fleece fabric cut in a butterfly shape and two other coordinating fabrics cut in five inch strips by one half inch. We'll start by taking our butterfly and folding it in half like this and we're going to cut two quarter inch slits from the bottom, here's the top of our butterfly, this is the bottom. From the bottom, not too close to the edge, about a quarter inch from the edge and about a half inch up here. So from the bottom a quarter inch, make a quarter inch slit, a half inch and make a half inch slit. Now we're going to take our butterfly and fold the top down. There's our last slit and we're going to make two slits a half inch apart along this fold like this. So that's what our slits are like. Two slits there and two slits there, the top slits going vertically and the bottom slits going horizontally. Now we want to make matching slits on our poncho. Take the poncho and fold it in half. You may want to mark first where you're going to put the butterfly. Fold that in half and if you take your butterfly and just match it up and then make the two slits to match the butterfly like that. Those match. Now I want to make a fold in the poncho. There are our slits. Again we're going to fold, let's match it up to our butterfly in the same, check to see that it's the same distance, about a half inch there and a half inch there. It doesn't have to be so precise. You see I'm just folding and slitting, but I'm using my butterfly to guide me and just little quarter inch slits. Now we have our slits that match the butterfly slits and we'll lay our butterfly on top like that. I'm going to start with the bottom slits. I'm going to push the purple color through this way and the knot is going to be on the underside of the poncho and for the top one I'm going to push it in from the bottom and the knot will be on the top and the strings will give it a look like antennae. We're coming from the bottom now and you can take a pencil or blunt edge of the scissors to poke through and on the other side the same thing, just poke right through those slits and we have it like this. So we have our yellow here. We're going to do a simple square knot, right over left and then left over right and pull tight and trim those and they kind of give a look like antennae and on then on the back also a simple square knot, right over left and left over right and you can trim those a little too and there is our butterfly decoration. Here's our two toned poncho, one layer, and notice when you wear it with the triangle down you end up with a two tone on the shoulder."
