The poncho once had a purely practical use. It was a simple garment that kept the body warm and protected against rain. Essentially, it is a large sheet of fabric with an opening for the head and arms. First associated with South and Central America, this clothing tradition has spread worldwide. Now, the poncho has become a hot fashion accessory. Made from all kinds of fabric, the poncho can be endlessly decorated to coordinate with any fashion trend. Regardless if you are the hard-core hippie, the trendy Neiman Marcus shopper, or a fanatic for comfortable clothing, the poncho seems to fit perfectly. And, you can find them anywhere! Even the colorful Frank Zappa remarks, “Is that a real poncho? I mean is that a Mexican poncho or is that a Sears poncho?”

"Today I'll be demonstrating how to make a child's fleece poncho. This is the super easy fleece poncho. All you need is single layer of fleece and a pair of very sharp scissors. Now this fleece comes in width of sixty inches and we're demonstrating today how to make a small child's poncho and I'm going to be cutting a twenty-seven inch square. Now to square the fabric, it's very easy, you measure the twenty-seven inches long, and you can measure that in a few spots and then cut that twenty-seven inches so that once you have a twenty-seven inch piece then you take the corner and you bring the corner up to the side and match the sides perpendicular and then anything that overlaps on the end here you're going to cut off and trim.
