Finger Puppets: Duck Materials

"To make our mommy and baby ducks, these are the materials we'll be using. We need some yellow felt and some orange felt. You'll need a piece of paper to make a pattern. We'll be sewing so you'll even need a needle and thread for hand sewing, or you can sew this also with your machine. You'll need some scissors and a permanent marker to mark the eye. You'll want to start by making a pattern for our mother hen, and what you can do is have a child put his hand down, his or her hand down, and then you'll draw around the hand. Children love to be used to make patterns. And just put a little bit of a tail feather in the back here and make that the head of the duck a little bit bigger than the thumb of the child and make sure that this opening comes straight down. Don't pull it in this way because the hand will not go in after. Now an adult will be able to use this puppet also, he'll just put the puppet on with only their fingers and not the thumb. Once you have your pattern drawn, then you can cut your felt and you just, you're going to use two layers of the felt and we'll just cut, we'll lay that down here, let's cut our pattern out first and we'll lay that down and cut out our felt."
