"JEANNETTE WHITE: Hi. I'm Jeannette White on behalf of Expert Village and Piper's Quilts & Comforts located in Sugarhouse. Today, we're going to be talking about basic rotary cutting. The first thing you want to do is have a really good ruler that has a grid with eighth and quarter inch. And the next thing you want to do is have a rotary cutter that is of this style. We're going to lay our ruler down and your hand is going to go flat. Now, on your rotary cutter, you can see you have a washer side and a side with a screw. The side with the washer goes next to your ruler, and you always want to maintain a little bit of pressure going toward the left, so that you can be in contact with the edge of this ruler. Most important thing, on your rotary cutter, you find a little gridded area, you must keep you index finger on that gridded area. If you're holding your rotary cutter like this, you're out of control and this blade can be very dangerous. If you'll put your index finger right here, then you've got control over your rotary cutter. Hand goes flat, washer goes next to the ruler and you're in contact, guard goes down, and you're going to push away from yourself and try to do it in one motion. Rotary cutting changed everything and it's wonderful. This is how you do a basic cut."
