Series Summary

Over time, dogs have proven to be well-adapted for human life, expressing qualities of loyalty and bravery, being emotionally flexible and responding to commands. Some people love their dogs like children, and take them everywhere they go. Why should dogs not then begin to participate in some of the activities that humans do? Well, this trend among pet owners answers that question in a very unique way.

In this free video series, learn how to stitch together a dog coat. That’s right! Get step-by-step instructions for making clothing for your pets. Our expert seamstress will walk you through each part of the assembly, including taking measurements, cutting the fabric according to the sewing pattern, using Velcro for a good, flexible fit, and adding decorative features, like lace, or using a backstitching technique to create a special effect. Finally, learn how to make a coordinating scarf…just in case those winters get especially bitter.

"On behalf of expertvillage.com, this is Jennifer with a Perfect Alterations in Burleson, Texas, (817) 447-3522. This series is on back stitching. This project requires a lot of back stitching. Today we are just going to over the basic supplies you are going to need. We are going to make a pet coat for our little dog. We've chosen our pattern and on the pattern it will tell you on the back of the pattern which I have highlighted, it will tell you the different notions and the type of fabric that you are going to need for the project. We've chosen a fabric that doesn't need any kind of surging or anything to finish off the edge. All you have to do is cut it and the edges finished and the fabric won't ravel. We have a ruler to make sure that we get all of our dimensions correct. We have our pins which we put in a pin cushion. We have Velcro which we are going to use to fasten the pet coat on the sides. We have some small buttons which we are going to use to decorate. We have our chalk which this chalk will erase;you can make the marks on the pattern when we cut it out and then this chalk will erase with an iron, when you put a hot iron to it. We have our tape measure which we are going to measure our little dog to make sure that we have the correct size, our little snipping scissors, our big scissors to cut the pattern out, our thread and some more stuff to decorate the sides of the pet coat with.
