" Hi! On behalf of expertvillage.com, I am Jennifer with A Perfect Fit Alterations, 102 S. Main Street in Burleson, Texas. Our phone number is 817-447-3522. Today we’re going to demonstrate putting on an appliqué with a very wide zigzag stitch. We’ve cut out our piece that we want to put on, we’ve pinned it on, we’re using an appliqué foot. We’re going to make the zigzag as wide as it’ll go and as long as it’ll go. And you just gently turn the fabric as you’re going, go real slow with your zigzag. If you get to a spot where the fabric is kind of buckling, put your needle down in the fabric, lift your pressure foot and turn, get to a corner, put your needle down in the fabric. If you need some more pins, you can put some more pins in. Now when you’re going around the corner like this, go real slow, stop every now and again and lift your pressure foot; the corners are a little tricky especially around edge like this. I’m using pink thread just for a decorative look. It doesn’t matter if you’re right on the edge; that’s not as important. This is just something we can put, we can put this little square on a bag, on a back of a jacket, we can do lots of things. Now when you get down here to the bottom it’s a little tricky. You want to do a reverse stitch and then continue around your project here…and as you get better at it you can go faster with it. Now as you can see right here I have made a mistake: the fabric is kinked up. So what you want to do, take your little scissors and just clip the edge of the zigzag, pull the stitch out right here where you made the mistake, start back here. Now when you start right back here, you want to make a backwards zigzag so that the stitches here don’t keep coming out, because see how they’ll keep pulling out like this if you don’t fix what you’ve done wrong. So you want to go back here. So I’m going to want to put my needle down, then go backwards a few steps to lock those stitches in, otherwise they’ll come out and then continue on around your project."
