my name is Jim Dufresne. I'm here to tell you about acoustic guitar amplification. The electric guitar is amplified differently, as you know, because they use electrode magnetic pickups. And here are the pickups that you're most familiar with, and these pickups have magnets, in this case one for each string. Some pickups have blades that go across so when you bend a string you don't lose volume on that particular string. There's also a bobbin of copper wire, wraps around this magnet set, and what this is, is actually a motor, works off the same principal that an electric motor does, or as a generator. When something happens, it generates electricity. In this case it sends out millivolts. Now these millivolts run through your potentiometers and capacitors and gizmos and switches and goes down the cable to the pre-amp where it's amplified, and then that's sent to an amplifier which amplifies it more, which drives the speaker.
