All About the Silk in the Magic Silk & Ball Trick

"So, now we're going to learn all about the props. Yes. And we're going to start with the silk. The very first step is to take the silk off of the top hat and you're going to place it onto your left hand. Now, what I usually do is grab it by a corner, and whisk it off, give it a little bit of a flourish, and drape it over the left arm. Now, this does a couple things. One, it gives a little bit of artistry to the effect and second, it shows that there's nothing in, okay, the silk, at all, and that's important to establish that. And even though you're not saying it, it's pretty much understood from the audience, mmm-hmm, point of view that there can't possibly be anything. You want to give them a visual? Exactly. And, so that's the very first step. So...Great! Just to repeat, it's taken off, given a shake, draped over the left arm and now you're ready for the next step, where we go into the hat to pick up the black ball. Okay, what happens if you don't do that? Let's see how it looks. Okay, well, if you just take it off the hat, basically, basically if you're just going like that, it's just good theater. It's fast actually, so you don't have time to establish, you don't have time to establish that there's nothing in there, even though people can see there's nothing in there, right, still this really shows you there's nothing there. It's good theater, see, right there, yes! It was very theatrical. And, and, it's draped over the arm, and again, it makes you look cool! Oh, it makes you look cool! I didn't know that. So, this is the cool look for everybody. Right? I didn't know magicians were into fashion, oh, yeah, but I'm telling you, I'm learning a lot about magicians today. Yes, exactly. Great, so we know about the silk. So, next, what prop are we going to learn how to use. Next, we're going to pull the black ball out of the hat, and I'll show you how to do that.
