Series Summary

For centuries magicians have sparked our imaginations and puzzled our intellects with their ingenious illusions and tricks. The tricks we acknowledge as entertaining today were once used to mystify and cheat audiences in a less scientific age. But even though today's audiences know there is no supernatural powers at work, magic is no less baffling or enjoyable. Whether you're simply pulling the proverbial rabbit from the hat, or making the statue of liberty disappear, magic has the power to inspire and amaze.

In this free videos series, our experts Grace Fraga & Glenn Schneider will show you how to do the silk and ball magic trick. They will teach you about the supplies you'll need, all about the different balls you'll use, and teach you how to change the balls. They will also teach you how to handle the wand and finish the trick theatrically.

"Hi, you're watching Expert Village. I am Grace Fraga, your host for "Arts and Crafts, and Everything Fun". I am the owner of Fraga Framing and Art Gallery, both in New Orleans and Los Angeles. And today we are going to have "Magic for Beginners", and my guest is professional magician, Glendolf. Hi Glendolf, how're you doing? Hey, doing fine, thank you. Good to see you. Good to see you you, too. So, what are we going to learn today? Today we're going to learn a very simple parlor trick, and that is a silk and a ball trick. Oh nice, I love those, I always wondered how they're done, what the trick is there. So tell us a little bit about you, how long have you been doing magic? Well, I've been doing magic a little bit over ten years. I've been interested in it all my life, but it was about a little over ten years ago that I really go into it. And about two years I moved out here to LA, and started to take it really seriously. I went to a serious school for magic, and also a school for comedy, so I combined the two. Great, well we're going to see! Comedy and magic, that's a great combination. So you're going to learn while we're having fun. So, great, and let me ask you about your education. Okay, the school of magic I went to is the Studio of Chavez, Chavez Studio of Magic, that's what it's called, and it was about a fifteen month course, and that was a long one, very hard to learn all those things. Great, any books that the audience can read about magic and learn some tricks? Yes, a couple I would recommend, Mark Wilson's Giant Book of Magic, and also The Tarbell Course of Magic, Volumes 1-8, great place to begin. Great, well I can't wait to see how this is done, so stay tuned."
