Preparing a Lug for a Clay Handle

"Okay another way to make a handle for mugs is by pulling them. And the first thing you want to do to pull a mug handle is to prepare the lug. You're going to cut a small piece of clay. You want it to be kind of wedge shaped. And then you can take this and shape it by tapping it on your table. Which by the way, your table needs to be covered in canvas. I hadn't addressed that yet. That canvas is a really great way. It absorbs the water and it doesn't stick to your clay. It's one of the best coverings you can use. So once you've got the basic shape that you want you want to make sure and tap the end at an angle. This is very important when it comes to actually putting this on the mug. So now we've got that shape. So this will be our lug for pulling our handle which I'll show next."
