"Now we are going to put a coat of base paint over the picture frame. This is because I used a lot of masking tape and I have also put some gold fasteners which are - they look like gold studs on the outside of the frame - so I want to cover all this up and make it so that when I put my layer of colored paint on, my coat of colored paint, it is going to come through much nicer and it will be much richer color because the colored paint is going straight on a white, clean surface as opposed to a carton with pieces of masking tape and different colors. So I go ahead and cover the entire thing. Again, it does not have to be the smoothest coats, in other words, if you have some places where it goes on a little thicker, some places where it goes on a little less thick, it is not so important as far as what shows through from underneath. The important thing is that it does create a ... you do not have any lumps or any thick pieces going onto the picture frame, because those thick pieces are going to show through when I put the colored paint. But just create like a general coat all around, covering up any pieces of tape and wherever you put the gold studs, the fasteners. This is stuff you might want to think about when planning the project because it does take some time for it to dry; it is going to be have to be left aside. So just keep that in mind when you are planning your studs. I am going to do this now, so that I can go ahead and start preparing the picture and our plastic coating that is going to be placed over the picture, and I am going to do that while this is drying. So it is important to try and do this in the first part of the project, get it all ready as far as putting the fasteners and covering with tape, and getting everything prepared so that you can put this coat of paint on and let it sit aside and let it dry for a while. So now I have shown you how to put a white coat of base paint along the picture frame, covering up all the masking tape and the gold fasteners, and getting it ready to put a layer of colored paint on."
