"Now I'm going to show you how to smooth the edges of our picture frame that we've made. The way we do this is we're going to take masking tape and just run it along all the edges of the picture frame. The reason why we use the masking tape is because the picture frame is made from a heavy carton and the cuts that we've made sometimes leave some jagged edges because of the thickness of the cardboard. It doesn't cut as smooth as we'd like it to. So, in order to kind of smooth out those jagged edges, I take some masking tape and just run it along the outer edges. And I'm also going to run it on the inside edge where we cut the middle of the picture frame. Now, of course, this is not going to be seen because what we're going to do is take our base paint and cover the entire picture frame then color it with a regular colored paint. So all of this is going to be covered up. You won't be able to see any of the masking tape. So just go around the outer edge placing it in the middle and folding both sides of the masking tape over. This will create a much smoother edge once it's colored and painted than to have the rough edge of the cardboard of the carton sticking out. As well as giving an added smoothness to the texture of the outside of the frame, the masking tape also helps us secure the picture frame by closing off the edges and preventing the layers of paper that make up the carton from separating. So this is another reason why to put masking tape around the sides. Now we see what the picture frame looks like once it's been covered with the tape, the masking tape around the outer edges. So I've now shown you how to put masking tape around the outer edges of the picture frame creating a smooth texture."
