Summary: The first thing you do when cutting the body of the telescope is measure the diameter. Learn how to make an upside down telescope in this free crafts video.
"The first thing I need to do is measure the diameter of the telescope. The way I do that is to take my magnifying glass, and lay it inside the corrugated paper, and I wrap it around the outer rim of the magnifying glass. That will give me the circumference of the telescope, and then I add on about an extra inch or inch and a half to the length. This way, I'll have some extra room to actually close up the body of the telescope, once it's cut. Once I have my measurements, I cut along the length of the corrugated paper. It's pretty easy to do, because the corrugated paper has lines running down it, and I can just cut straight down a solid line, and I?ll know that I pretty much have a straight cut on my corrugated paper. The important thing is that it will be a uniform size from the top end to the bottom end. The length of the corrugated paper that we're going to be using is about twenty four inches, and again; it's going to be rolled up, and there will be a magnifying glass at each end of it. It's important that when you take the measurements, and you measure the circumference around one of the magnifying glasses, you add on about an inch, or an inch and a half, so you'll have room to seal it. Now that we've cut our strip of corrugated paper; which is about twenty four inches; we're going to cut it in half, and we're going to insert one roll of our telescope into the other. When the corrugated paper rolls are inserted; one into the other, we're going to have two ways that we can focus; one; we can extend the telescope to go in and out. We'll also be able to spin it so that we're using the handle of the magnifying glass so that the one roll is going to turn inside the outer roll, so we'll have two ways of actually focusing in on an object. Now I've shown you how to cut the corrugated paper, and cut it in half again to make the body of our telescope."
