"Hello! My name is Duane Carter and on behalf of Expert Village, I am going to be talking today about learning how to listen to and appreciate music. In order to truly appreciate music, a listener should have a basic understanding of what music is. What I've discussed in these last segments is to give an overview of the various parts or components of basic music composition. I have discussed form the compositional devices of repetition, variation and contrast. The cultural and environmental influences that causes one to gravitate to one's style of music over another and the five elements of music; melody, harmony, rhythm, pitch and timbre. These are things that an active listener should be aware of. They not only help to enhance your musical listening experience but also helps bring out a more educated listening audience which inadvertently helps the performer in bringing you a more musical product.
