"Hi, my name's Elissa with expertvillage.com and today I'm going to show you how to crochet a scarf. Now that I've taught you the single, double, and triple crochet stitches, you can start to experiment and make up your own stitches. Like this one, this scarf I made recently, it's a very wide weave stitch that I've used by using a chain stitch and looping it around. And so I've done a row of the specialty stitch that I came up with and then a row of double crochet and then another row and continue on and on and it makes a really decorative fun pattern for a scarf. So, let me show you how to do that. We're going to start with a chain stitch and we did that in the beginning to start off our scarf, and I'm going to do eight chains. So, go one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, so you have eight stitches right here. And what you're going to do is loop this stitch around back to the bottom and you're going to go into your second stitch and do just a single crochet. So, you put it through, pull your yarn through and then pull it through both loops. So, now you've got this loop up here that we're going to connect to another row of stitches on the top. Okay, so now you go to your next stitch and you do a single crochet to begin with and then do your eight chain stitches, like we did before. So you put your hook behind your thread, over your thread, and pull it through, there's one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. We have eight chain stitches. You bring it back down to our next stitch, put your hook through the next stitch, pull your yarn through and do a single crochet. Now we have these two loops that we'll be adding another row on top and it makes this really great pattern. So just continue on. On your next stitch do a single crochet and then continue with your eight chain stitches, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, and then bring it back down and do your single crochet. So continue on doing this stitch across the whole width of your scarf and in the next clip I'll show you how to finish off the top. So this is a specialty stitch that I came up with using a single crochet and a chain stitch."
