"Hi, may name's Elissa with ExpertVillage.com and today I'm going to show you how to crochet a scarf. Now I'm going to show you how to start stitching your scarf. I've chosen a medium grade acrylic yarn, it's going to be the easiest to work with and to start off you're going to want to make a slip knot. And, to do that you're just going to cross your yarn over like this, put your fingers through the loop and pull the longest piece out, so that's a slip knot. I'll do that one more time. You make your yarn, you cross your yarn over into a loop, you reach through and you pull it through, and you want to put that around your needle and pull it tight. So, that's a slip knot and that's how you get started. Now, it's very important to hold your yarn a certain way so to insure you have a good grip on everything. So, what you want to do to hold your yarn, is with your left hand pull the yarn with your pinkey and then flip your hand around and put it over your index finger and then hold the mat of the yarn with your middle and thumb. I'll do that one more time. You want to grab the yarn with your pinkey, flip your hand over and put the yarn over your index finger and grab the knot with your middle and thumb and then you're ready to start stitching."
