"On behalf of Expert Village. I am Emily DeCola. I am here at the Puppet Kitchen in New York City and we re going to talk about marionettes. Slightly more complex is this marionette. Her name is Chica and she is another puppet that I have built over the course of the last two years. She is still in process but you can see if you look and of control for Chica it s much more complex. A wonder of German Engineering. This particular control is built in the German, the style that everybody in the puppet world refers to as German Technology. You can see that it s mostly vertical elements. The way that I m holding it allows the head to tip back and forth. As well as from side to side and I'm able to do all kinds of wonderful trick things with each one of these control elements up here. But it really looks like a huge machine unlike some of the other controls that I showed before. There s a bit of a debate in the puppet world over what is the most effective marionette control. Whether it s this elaborate German machine or the classic American control which you can see my left hand which is a simply a series of two T bars."
