"In this clip we are going to discuss when to cut and when not to cut. Cutting is a strategy used to take more books and throwing off which would be not cutting would be saying I don't have that suit whether then cut I'm going to let someone else take it. You usually do this when you are playing partners and your partner already has the book. There is no need of cutting your partner because your team already won. As you could see we have already gone ahead and fast forward the game a little bit. Two hands has been played, the person left at the dealer, played the 9 of clubs. My partner played the queen and this person played the 8. Right now my partner is winning this hand. We are partners so I have no need to come in and win this myself. I have no clubs left as you could see therefore I have to play something. I can A, cut using this 3 which would guarantee me the win and my partner and I get the book or I can lay out something else. Giving that my partner's had it, why waste a spade. What I could do then is just come in with a 4. It is a low card I want to get rid of my low ones so I only have high ones left at the end of the game. So by playing the 4 my partner retains control. Now I could have cut there if I wanted to and taking control of the board if I was going to try to pull a lot of spades out of the deck or something. But I don't have enough cards to do that with so I let my partner take it. Now my partner realizing that I'm cutting clubs would come back again with a club. Now it just so happens that this person has no clubs and so they can cut. Given that my partner's technically winning it, clubs are laid. So if they lay anything but a club they are going to take it as well. So let's say they decide to come in here and cut with a 4. Now they know that I'm cutting as well and so they have it now with a 4 and is saying alright if I want it I have to play something higher than the 4 or I could let it go. I luckily have something higher than a 4, that is not an expensive card to use which is the 7. That is cutting. Because my partner lead the clubs they came over and cut so now I'm cutting again to make sure we win the hand. Now the only way that this is going to back fire is if they have no clubs and came in and cut as well. Luckily they have a club so we still win that hand and now I'm in control because I won that with a cut."
