" A: And now we will do quarter notes and eighth notes. Alright, so we already discussed how much is a quarter note worth. B: One. A: One beat that's right and so that in eighth note, how many eighth notes do you need in one measure in a four, four times signature. B: Eight, because each eighth note is half a quarter so it makes half a beat. A: Half a beat that’s right. So how may if you have two quarter notes how many eighth notes do you have? B: If you have two quarter notes you have four eighth. A: Right that's very good and what happens if you have a measure that has a half note and two quarter notes how many beats is there in that measure? B: Wait. A: A half note is how many beats. B: Two beats. A: And then quarter notes are how many? B: Two. A: So you need two quarter notes to add up to a half. B: Half. A: Half that’s right. So that’s half and quarter notes for you."
