" With kids it is important to teach them about rhythm and so we talk about in four four times signature which is the first time signature you would teach; whole notes, half notes, quarter notes and eighth notes and what they mean and how to count them. A: So, how many beats in a four, four time signature is there? B: Four. A: Exactly and what kind of note gets one count? B: Four. A: What kind of note gets one count? B: Quarter. A: Yeah, a quarter note and what is a whole note worth? B: The whole…. four beats. A: Four beats the whole entire measure and a half note. B: A half note is half the entire measure so there will be two half notes in each measure. A: And each half note is worth how much the amount of ? B: Four. A: No each whole note is worth four so what would a half note be? B: Two. A: Exactly. So that is whole and half notes."
