"DAVID GIBSON: In this next clip we're going to flatten the platter. I've pushed it down like a pancake on the wheel, but I'm going to continue to do that using the side of my fist, I'm pushing the clay out. Again, I can't stress enough compression. We need to really compress, compress, compress our clay. Again, moving that clay from the inside to the out; got a nice big pancake here with plenty of clay. I wanna--on this edge here define what is my floor and what is my rim. Okay? I'm working from the inside out with compressing here with my fingers and working from the outside back in, keeping this base nice and tight. This one will help to avoid any S-cracking or cracks that you maybe having with your platter. Keeping the bottom compressed."
