"Hi! This is David Jackel on behalf of Expert Village and I am here to talk about keeping your instruments safe from theft. Now we've all heard horror stories about bands that have had their equipment ripped off from them while they were on tour. How can you avoid this. Number 1 rule, never let your equipment out of sight. Know where your equipment is and see where it is. If you are traveling by car, keep your car locked at all times even if you step out for a second, keep that car locked so that you are in the habit of always having it locked. No expensive equipment should be visible in your car. Anything you have in the backseat should be covered with a rug or a blanket. When you are transporting equipment from your car into a club or some other location, set up a chain of people who are carrying the equipment. Always have one person by the car. Never leave it unattended not even for a second. You can have one other person who goes back and forth delivering the equipment into the club and you have another person to do it, let one person stay at the club and keep an eye on the equipment as it is being brought in. Usually your equipment is somewhat safe in the club because someone is watching it and people aren't going to be as likely to steal as if it is standing there on the street. So if you have to have one place where you are not watching the equipment, let it be the club. But really any other time, that equipment needs to be under the lock and under your eyes. Also remember any other personal items that you bring are safe. Some one may be tempted by musical equipment and then also notice your digital camera or laptop so keep everything hidden as much as you can and never ever let it leave your sight. "
