"Hi, I'm Candi Cane Canncel with Expert Village. This topic is zippers all about zippers I personally love to put in zippers. I was taught a long time ago a really easy way to put them into garments and ever since then, I put zippers in everything. I just think it's really easy once you know this trick it just makes it much more fun to put them in. There are so many different types of zippers out there, they are all pretty the same the since that they have a little zipper head, they have zipper tape and then the teeth that run down the length of it. They are finished off with a little metal piece that is called the zipper stopper. Zippers come in so many different sizes and shapes some of them have really decorative heads, some of them are really tiny, there are metal zippers, plastic. There are so many different types of zippers out there and when you are considering what type of zipper you need for your project. If you are working with a commercial pattern under the notion section it will list exactly what type of zipper you need. If you are suppose to be putting in a visible zipper or just a regular standard zipper necessary. It will also give you a length, zippers come in everything from something tiny like this that is a few inches long to a really long zipper, say 50". To like a dress zipper that is 20" or 22" so that is how you'll be able to determine which size you need if you are using a commercial pattern. If you are making other patterns then it's kind of up to you how long you want the zipper. If you are doing something like a skirt or a pair of jeans usually it's 7 or 9" zippers that are pretty standard. With jeans I actually sell jean zippers and you can get them at most fabric stores. Those are basically just a zipper that has a metal teeth that are very much more durable than say your nylon zipper. If you are doing something like a dress or a skirt, then a nylon zipper is fine. It's something a lot more light weight more delicate than say something like more heavy as that. The other thing to consider is make sure you have a zipper foot you can put a zipper with a standard zig zag foot. But it makes your life so much easier if you do have a zipper foot and if your machine didn't come with one, you can find most zipper foots available online or usually at your local fabric store. "
