Series Summary

When you were a kid did you hate school. Most of us did but whether or not we liked school every kid loved playing learning games. It made the information easy to learn, fun and exciting. One of the biggest trouble subjects with most young kids is math. Lets face it, there are just way too many numbers to keep track of. Do you remember any of the tricks in math that you learned in school to help you solve problems? They were endless and hard to remember sometimes but they were much more fun when adapted into a game that every student enjoyed.

This video series covers many of the largest problem areas in a young child’s quest through the maze of math and turns them into games that both child and teacher will enjoy. Lets face it, it’s hard to keep a child’s attention but when you use dominoes to tech them about addition and differences in numbers they zone right in. This series addresses money, simple arithmetic, sorting and even place values. So take a look if your child needs a bit of help in math and see how fun you can make it for the both of you!

Video Transcript

"My name is Courtney and on behalf of Expert Village and in the clip I'm going to show you a game that you can play at home to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, and even division. The first thing you're going to need is just a blank piece of paper and a marker or a pen, and you're going to draw a circle on your paper and then you're going to draw a smaller inner circle. The next thing you're going to do is pick four numbers to put on the outside. I'm going to pick six, two, eight, and four, it really doesn't matter what these numbers are. For this game we're going to practice addition and so I'm going to pick a plus sign and I'm going to pick another number to go in the middle. It could be 3. The object is to see how fast your child can solve each one of these equations. Three plus six, three plus two, three plus eight, and three plus four. You write the answer on the outside of the circle. Three plus six is nine, three plus two is five, three plus eight is eleven, and three plus four is seven. So, after you teach them the object of the game you would time them and you would get them a number to write in the middle and they would automatically begin to solve. Then you could do it again to see if they could beat their time. So, you could draw another circle and again put the same numbers or you could do different numbers. We're going to do the same ones. But this time we're going to add using a different number, say five. You'd say "go". Five plus six is eleven, five plus two is seven, five plus eight is thirteen, and five plus four equals nine. This is a great game to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division."
