Summary: Crocheting a hat consists of several rows that are simple to do but a bit tricky. Watch this free video clip with a crochet expert to show you how to continue crocheting a border.
"We've been working on the border for our hat, and we're keeping it the same color this one time, but what you can see is the change from the regular standard double crochet that we did throughout the hat, and how we've got a nice, completely closed off trim going all the way around. We're doing this just as a single crochet. And this is what; all we've been doing is just going underneath each chain and pulling it through like that. And again, while we're doing this, we're creating a row of chains on the bottom again. By putting these chains on the bottom of the hat, it makes it real easy to add something else on to there. But you'll see, we've really just kind of helped close it off and just changed it just enough from the rest of the pattern to give it something that looks a little bit different. And again, having this tighter crochet around the bottom really helps keep your hat from losing its shape too fast; really helps make it nice and tight around the edge. And just go under, we've got our last one. And now when you get to your seem remember, don't forget to grab these last ones that are right here. Just go underneath it and pull it down, and unlike when we had our double crochet, we don't have a lot extra to work with. So what we're going to do, just to make sure we close it off right is we're just going to stick our needle just where ever it can fit, just stick it underneath those bunch of yarns and pull it through. And I'm just going to pull that out so we have some room. And there we go, we've completed our border, and you can really see how even though it's the same color, it just really kind of changed it up around the edge. And again, this helps add a little bit of tension to it so it fits really well right here. Now if you wanted to, you can continue the same pattern we've been using on the border and continue to use it down if you just wanted to change up your tension in your hat. And also, what we can do now is we can add another color, and we can change up our stitching again if we wanted to, just to our hat a little bit different. But that's a good way to just add a little bit of border around your hat."
