"Now that we have our base chain completed we are going to do a couple of double crochets. Now, with this particular pattern that's so airy we're not going to do a double crochet on top of every chain we're going to kind of create a lot of space with it. So, since I have a finer yarn when I'm looking for my chains I'm actually going to flip to the bottom, so try and follow me the best that you can. I'm going to wrap some yarn around my needle. I'm going to count back two; two complete chains and it's one, two. So, right underneath that you can find that one little bulge that sticks out and when you flip it over you see it's completely underneath that chain. That makes it so much easier when you're working with your base chain to start your double crochets. Now, you're going to pull it all the way through. You've got your three loops on your needle and to do the double crochet you're going to wrap your yarn around again and pull it through and then you're going to do it again and pull it through. There we go and we've did our first double crochet. I'm not going to do the next chains. What I'm going to do is I'm actually just going to chain one and then I'm going to wrap my yarn around my needle. I'm going to skip that chain and go to my next one. I'm just going to stick my needle underneath there. That is of course right underneath that chain. I'm going to pull my yarn through. I'm going to pull it through the first two and pull that through the second two. There we go; we've created our first hole. You'll see on the edges that there's a double crochet and the column right next to each other. We're creating this on purpose so we can keep a nice consistent edge on the outside of it. If you look at my original piece you'll see there is two and then there's a hole and then there's two and then there's a hole. This is just to make sure that we keep a nice outside piece going and just to keep our proportions straight easier and also so it'll be more simple to add a border to it when we're done."
