One of the easiest ways to introduce your child to the world of artistic exploration is to allow them the freedom to initiate and participate in their very own art projects. One very simple but truly fun project for children and adults is the creation of homemade cards using a variety of art supplies and, naturally, creative vision! Parents who are drawn to such timeless and innovative hobbies as scrap-booking and homemade frame-making will delight in projects like our expert's featured here in this series. Your kids will love creating their own shapes with the stencils and watching their mind's eye create incredible cards for friends and family, and you will open your creative spirit wide as you help your child discover their artistic potential.
" Hi! My name is Brenda and today we’re going to be talking about the art of stenciling. You know stenciling has a long and rich history; it’s been used throughout the world and through the centuries. Prehistoric man used to make stencils on his caved wall, he would put his hand on the wall and he would blow pulverized pigment onto his hand and probably made the first stencil. During the middle ages the European’s brought stenciling to the new world. It’s been said that during the colonist times that itinerate artists would walk through the towns and for a little bit of money or food they would paint people’s floors and walls. So it has a rich history. Now today we’ll be talking about the items that we need for our stenciling projects. First we’ll need a stenciling template such as this; this is the ivy that I like to use. We’ll need low tact tape, this is a special stenciling tape that allows you to use this on projects and it does not stick or take paint off your wall. Acrylic paint or you can use special stenciling paint, they come in little pots, and I personally use the acrylic paint. A stenciling brush and you’ll notice that it’s got the short bristles, a paper plate to put our paint on and some paper towels because it does get messy and a ladder if you’re going to be painting up high on your ceilings or on your walls."
