on 4/14/2009 I think you are very articulate and easy to understand. I also agree with the other viewers about a zoom in shot where we could see the stitches you made. I'm looking forward to viewing the rest of your videos with my 13 year old who is anxious to use her new sewing machine.

on 8/2/2008 candi, yes, I agree with the other commenter, that it would have been nice to show the stitches on the sample fabric, or show as you are sewing it also. Thanks so much for the awesome videos on making things! I have made the pot holder and oven mitt set! In fact several of them! Keep up the good work!

on 8/2/2008 Candi, it would have been nice if you would have shown the camera the stitches that you sewed on the piece of sample fabric. Next time you sew something, hold it up to the camera for a close-up!

" Hi! I’m Candi Cane-Canncel on behalf of expertvillage.com. This topic is starting to sew. So we’ve taken our piece of fabric and made little guidelines and what we’re going to be doing is actually stitching. Now when you start out it’s a good idea to use a contrasting thread from your fabric so you actually can see the thread itself. So you’re going to stick it under the piece of fabric underneath your presser foot, pull your little presser foot level down and start to sew. The lines are just an easy way to keep yourself in check as far as sewing a straight line. Now when you really get sewing what you’re going to want to do is once you start sewing you’re going to be using your reverse button so that you can back-tack and what back-tacking is it basically just holds your stitch in place. So you back-tack a few stitches and you just keep going…and when you get to the very end you’re going to want to back-tack again. Pull out your balance lever, pull out your thread and just cut it, that’s really all there is to basic sewing. For more information about this topic feel free to check out my website at candiland.com."
