Series Summary

Massage is a popular and beneficial treatment method for a variety of ailments, and has been for centuries. Evidence of the use of massage has been found in many ancient civilizations such as china, India, Greece, Rome, and Egypt. Hippocrates, the Greek physician whom the Hippocratic oath is named after is purported to have said, “The physician must be experienced in many things, but assuredly in rubbing.” And if Hippocrates said it, then it must be true. And even if the massage techniques of today fall short in creativity compared to those of yesteryear—in Romania, some illnesses were treated by the patient being tread upon by a tame bear—they are decidedly safer, and some would argue, more effective.

In this free video series, our expert Alexson Roy will show you how to give a calf massage. He will teach you how to warm-up the muscle, the wringing technique, how to use lateral motions, and how to give a neuro-muscular massage. Alexson will also teach you the upward stroke technique, techniques for applying pressure, and the stroke friction technique. Alexson will even show yo how to stretch the muscle and wake it up before teaching you how to finish the massage.

"Hello and thank you for watching on Expert Village. My name is Alex Roy and I will be your massage therapist for the day. What we are going to do we are going to do a series on massage therapy. This particular series is on the calf. I chose the calf because most people in the gym where I work at they have problems with the calf muscles because of the exercises and the class that requires them to push off and do different things in the gym. Runners have a particular problem with the calf also and the shin. So we are going to focus on the calf and that is what I call the anterolateral muscles which is the shin. In the next segment I would definitely explain the specific muscles that kind of tribute to the mention that lies in the calf and in your shin muscle. "
